Tenko (meaning 'roll call') is based on real life experiences and was originally broadcast on BBC One in 1981. It is 1941 and the terrors of war-torn Europe seem a long way away for the small expatriate community living in Singapore. But their privileged lives are soon to be shattered when the Japanese Army launches a devastating surprise attack. This is the powerful story of women from different backgrounds who are thrown together by the chaos of war. The series charts their lives as they come to terms with the harsh reality of being prisoners of war, existing under a cruel regime, living through suffering, love and death until the eventual end of the war. This is followed by the shock of being back in the luxurious, seemingly unchanged, lifestyles they left behind. There is poignancy when one of the women organises a reunion at Raffles in Singapore and the group meet again to reminisce about the past and look forward to the future. This boxed set contains the entire first, second and third series and the special Reunion episode.
